LTTA in Berlin: Foresight Tools for European Cities

A meeting to shape the future of cities

From June 23 to 25, 2025, the JUSTURBANITIES project held its Learning, Teaching and Training Activity (LTTA) in Berlin, hosted at Müllerstrasse 70B. This three-day event brought together project partners for practical learning and exchange, focusing on foresight methods and exploring how active participation can support urban resilience in response to the various crises facing European cities.

Practical activities and shared reflections

Throughout the meeting, partners engaged in sessions using practical tools such as:

  • Futures Wheel to analyse the future consequences of present choices.
  • Backcasting and 3 Horizons to imagine possible scenarios and transition pathways.
  • 2×2 Scenario Matrix to explore alternatives in uncertain conditions.
  • Design Thinking to co-create scenarios for future workplaces and communities.
  • Future Walkabout, exploring the urban environment from new perspectives.

These activities encouraged discussions on social inclusion, just transitions, climate crises, and urban governance challenges, with the aim of identifying concrete ways to engage citizens and stakeholders in transformative processes.

Towards local workshops for resilient communities

The LTTA concluded with the co-design of local foresight workshops, which will be rolled out across partner cities in the coming months. These workshops will foster dialogue among institutions, communities, and citizens, promoting active participation and civic engagement to build more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive neighbourhoods.
